Counting of votes for the civic polls in Maharashtra is set to start at 10 am. The elections were held on January 15 across 29 municipal corporations in the state, including Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). The voting process was completely disrupted at various polling stations as election is underway for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra. Two major places such as Dhule and Amravati witnessed complete chaos as EVMs started malfunctioning soon after the voting process started.

Maharashtra is voting in its civic elections on Thursday, January 15, covering 29 municipal corporations across the state. The spotlight is firmly on Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), largely because of its annual budget of Rs 74,400 crore. Polling is being held from 7.30 am to 5:30 pm across 893 wards and 2,869 seats, with 3.48 crore voters and 15,931 candidates in the fray statewide.

The Election Commission on Wednesday said during the BMC election results day, the counting for all 227 wards will not begin simultaneously and it has set up 23 counting centres for the elections as the vote counting will start in phases on January 16. The counting will be conducted in phases, meaning only two wards will be counted at a time. Once the counting for these two wards is complete, the counting for the next two wards will begin.

A fire broke out on Wednesday morning at the official residence of BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad in the national capital, prompting an immediate response from the fire department. According to officials, a call regarding the incident was received at 8:05 am at 21 Mother Teresa Crescent Road. While the initial alert mentioned house number 2, it was later confirmed that the fire had occurred at house number 21, belonging to Prasad.
